A ...must have book.......2007-05-12
If your an Interior Designer or practicing to be one this book should be amongst the many in your personal library. The details are well written and displayed.
Excellent resource for Architects/Designers.......2006-11-03
I've purchased this book for 2 companies that I've worked for and for myself as well. I am an Interior Designer and find Interior Graphic Standards to be extremly resourceful and helpful when it comes to design & planning. It covers a wide range of topics such as basic electrical, mechanical, accessibility standards, plumbing fixture considerations; material finish's, door frames/types, acoustics, etc. and provides enough information on each subject so that you understand what is required to plan. My only complaint is that in many cases, measurements and dimensions are not shown where you would think they should exist. That being said, I highly recommend the book for people of all levels in this industry.
Targeted Primarily for Persons Doing Commercial Interior Design Projects.......2006-06-17
I already own AIA's Architectural Graphics Standards for Residential Construction, which is an excellent reference book for use in designing, planning, and building a new house or remodeling an existing one. Wanting more information for interior design of a house, I reviewed a copy of this book at the library. The book is primarily targeted to those persons doing interior design work on commercial projects. If you're looking for interior design help for a house, I would recommend buying AIA's Architectural Graphics Standards for Residential Construction to use as a reference and look for other books targeted specifically at residential interior design.
A good handbook for interior details!.......2004-03-09
The day I received the Interior Graphic Standards, I used some of the details in the book for a project I was working on. This book provides information, including construction details, which are very useful to the practicing architect and interior designer.
Bible of Interior Design~!.......2003-12-04
I'm an Interior Design student at Ryerson University in Toronto, and I have never seen a book that is as comprehensive as the IGS. It covers almost everything. I've used this book as a reference for almost every school project I've done. My professor strongly recommended this book to us, but at first I was hesitated to buy it because of the price. However I found it cheaper to buy online than in retail bookstores. I told my classmates about it and showed them the book, after they've seen it they said they are all gonna buy it. Overall this book is worth its price and I strongly recommend it~!

great resource tool.......2007-03-08
This book is a necessary staple for every Interior Designer's book collection
A great reference book for Design Students and Practicing Designers!.......2006-12-16
I recently purchased this book while taking a Commercial Interior Design course as part of my Interior Design degree. I found the book to be very helpful in many aspects of commercial design and specification. Also, my boss, who is a licensed Interior Designer and has been practicing for about 10 years has a copy of the book that she used while in college; she refers to it as her design reference Bible, haha. Although some of the material (such as codes) may be out of date due to the everchanging laws and standards, overall this book is filled with valuable information. A must-have for all interior designers!
Designers.......2006-02-20
A great book for interior designers. Serves as a great refrence. A must add to any library collection!
One of the best........2003-12-31
A very informative and usefull book for all designers.
DO NOT BUY! it's hard to imagine a more worthless book.......2001-01-18
This book is a fiasco. As a professional in commercial space planning for many years, I picked it up based on a 'glowing review'. I find another few good ratings here on-line. The authors mother must be writing them, because no one who actually attempted to verify the faulty and incomplete information within, could ever see this tome as worth the paper upon which it is printed.
One reviewer was accurate though; it isn't a bad door stop.

Book Description
This book offers a wealth of valuable, hard-to-find technical information on mid-twentieth-century building materials and systems, all carefully selected from the Fourth (1951) through Seventh (1981) editions of Ramsey/Sleeper's acclaimed Architectural Graphic Standards. A key reference for architects, builders, and educators whose work involves building maintenance and restoration, it brings back into print hundreds of pages that no longer appear in the current edition of Architectural Graphic Standards but which have real value and relevance for today's architectural practice.
Chapters include data and details for residential design, sitework and landscaping, stairs, fireplaces, energy-related issues such as sun shading and solar control, and more. Of particular interest is the information-on topics such as stonework and terra cotta, plank and beam framing, roofing systems, mill construction, and pneumatic tube conveyors-concerning systems and techniques no longer used in contemporary design but still found in buildings subject to remodeling and adaptive reuse.
Throughout, the book is made easy to use with the help of useful guidance on the interpretation of the older pages and annotations placing the material in a CSI MasterFormat(TM) context.
Filled with well-presented visual examples that offer important practical insights into the evolution of twentieth-century design and practice, this unique volume is an important working tool and a valuable addition to every architectural library.

Book Description
For the first time, beginning interior designers can learn how to graphically communicate their ideas with a resource that is designed specifically for them! While traditional drafting books focus on architectural and engineering readers, Architectural Drafting for Interior Designers eliminates the "widgets" and irrelevant coverage that is often seen, and incorporates material and examples that are relevant and meaningful to today's interior designers. This book also addresses the specific needs of beginning interior designers by focusing on topics needed before AutoCAD is even introduced, such as how to draw a floor plan, how to use it to create an interior elevation, and how to understand the relationship between 2D and 3D drawings. The only book that is written to the standards of the NCIDQ and interior design trade associations like NKBA, this will provide readers with a strong, standards-based foundation in interior design.

Book Description
The brightest talents in fantasy, horror, and science fiction art present their favorite creations in show-and-tell interviews that reveal the inspirations and techniques that guide their spectacular work. From the lyrical Tolkien landscapes of John Howe and Alan Lee to the computer-generated art of Steve Stone and Fred Gambino and the extraordinary sci-fi images of Jim Burns, the book demonstrates the diversity of this popular genre of illustrative art. Whether they work in watercolor, acrylics, airbrush, or manipulation of photographs or computer graphics, the artists take readers behind the scenes for a studio view of the creative processes that drive their fascinating art form. Included are interesting notes about their most demanding commissions and why they chose the particular mediums used for them. Artists include: Rick Berry, Jim Burns, Brom, Fred Gambino, John Howe, Alan Lee, Don Maitz, Dave McKean, Chris Moore, Steve Stone. 100 color illustrations.

Excellent Primer of Fantasy Artwork.......2003-01-14
This book is an excellent introduction to fantasy art.
great book.......2002-04-05
I got this book for christmas present and I was suprised, great illustrations from alan lee, john howe, brom, dave mckeane and chris moore. highly recommended!!
A GOOD BOOK FOR FANS AND ILLUSTRATORS OF FANTASY ART........2002-01-23
This 4.5 star book covers a wide variety of illustrators of traditional and computer media. Although this book is lacking in showing how the illustrators work it shows a good amount of artwork in progress by each of the illustrators shown. In my opinion Don Maitz and Brom are the only ones in this book that deserve the title on the books cover.
Really Good.......2001-02-13
This Book is Fantastic. I know some people may have been dissapointed that it didnt mention as many Fantasy artists, but for that, you need to buy the "Spectrum" fantasy books. This book is Fantastic BECAUSE It took a few of the many great artists, and let them tell about themselves and how they made it to where they are and what theyve done, as well as some sketches and behind the masterpiece work. There was a wide variety of both fantasy and science fiction, paint, drawing and digital. Great for detail. But if you want an overview of MANY artists, its not what youre looking for, (as I said). The color and layout of the book is done well. Great book to have, especially if you're an aspiring fantasy artist.
Too little and without promise.......2001-02-12
When I first recieved this book I was very disappointed. I've gone back to the book on a few occasions and I've come to the conclusion that, for me, it's decent enough. Some of the work in here doesn't come close to being considered masterpieces. While some of it is very good (Brom, Alan Lee, John Howe and Rick Berry particularly look good) some of the other work looks contrived and uninspiring.I'm not going to lambast the artists who created the work I didn't like. There's no point in being rude and I respect that these artists may very well have labored sincerely at their craft. Some of their work was even decent. On the other hand, I have to ask myself if they were the person on the street would they respond to images that look like spliced photos of leather clad fetish inspired fembots with what looks like gun barrels (?) for heads? I had to study that piece to make out that they were female even as they they had the basic scrawny model physique. While some of the work I didn't like communicated ideas I could relate to, others married the shocking with visuals in attempts to call itself art. Sensory response can be achieved by kicking a dog, however it's not likely to be considered art.Too make matters worse, while some of the work is graphic it's also over-stylized. If fantasy, as it's known to be, can be shocking (or just disturbing) as some of this work is, than once again we reduce the form to the lowest common denominator. "Wow! This is so cool." "Why?" "Cause I never saw this before." Is fantasy art be lowered to that most contrived form of visual impact that is called "conceptual art"? Please, count me out. Even worse is the fact that, for me, the unusual pieces were later viewed as just tacky and even later, boring. That's where I use the "contrived" label. Most of the other digital art was nothing short of boring even as it was unusual. What's the point of being unusual if it's still boring? Most of the traditional paintings were all right but, again, some of it was boring. What was the point the writer and editor were trying to highlight? In conclusion, there is some very good work in this book but there are also some works that left me wishing for straight up paintings and drawings again. The digital age has promised a lot and delivered very little. And none of it has inspired me to buy a print, frame it and display it. I'm still hopeful that it progresses beyond what's presented here.
Customer Reviews:
Not what I expected..........2006-02-08
With a dragon on the front cover I thought this would be heavily into medieval fantasy, Dragonlance-style book covers, and game art. There is but ONE artist in the whole book who is a medieval fantasy artist (dragons, elves, etc.). The rest are rather hard to describe. Some just seemed to push the limits of what we will put into the so-called fantasy genre (perhaps because it won't fit in any other genre?).
Don't get me wrong...I appreciate the effort these artists go through to produce their artwork, but unless you have a very non-discriminate art appreciation it's just not for everyone. Just be forewarned that the artists covered in this book belong to a vast array of genres, and while all may be talented in their chosen medium, you will have to be VERY open minded to appreciate all of it.
Even as an aspiring fantasy artist myself I found this book to offer little in the ways of inspiration. For some of the artists it doesn't even say where the works were used or displayed, or how the artist otherwise became well known.
If you are buying this book because you are a medieval or sci-fi fantasy/game art enthusiast, you will be sorely disappointed. Don't judge a book by its cover (I wish Amazon.com had a "search inside" option for this book!).
A BEHIND THE SCENES GLIMPSE.......2006-01-11
More Fantasy Art Masters isn't just another collection of fantasy work by great artists...it is, but it's much more. Rarely in fantasy art collections do you get a chance to get a glimpse behind the creation of the art. That is exactly what More Fantasy Art Masters does. The book spotlights ten very talented, yet very diversified artists and lets them provide commentary on their own work. Fans now can get inside their heads to know their motivations behind a piece. What perhaps those novices among us may have viewed as random placements of items in a painting, of color and light is actually very carefully planned from the beginning. In addition the artists provide interesting insights into their own careers.
We'll see how colors are chosen to present interesting contrasts between foreground and background and to set the proper mood of the piece. For example a Keith Parkinson painting, (one of my favorites) shows a couple of Orcs riding on horseback through a snow covered forest. The trees devoid of leaves and nearly of life provides an austere, grim setting as the pair seem hellbent on some type of evil quest. Most interesting and previously something I never fully realized is how color is used to very subtly convey moods and emotions, almost on a subliminal level. To hear the artists tell it in their own words sets off a bell in your head as you truly grasp what they hoped to convey in the painting. It's quite fascinating. The artists also go into great detail on the tools and materials they used for the works on display. Some work soley in one type of medium whether it's oil, acrylic, water color, digital, etc, while others are quite comfortable in combining several different types of paint.
The artists included in the book are Keith Parkinson, Anne Sudworth, Judith Clute, Phil Hale, Ian Miller, J.K. Potter, Greg Spalenka, Dave Seeley, Darrel Anderson, and John Harris. The book really does a great job of spotlighting an eclectic array of talent.
