Book Description
Does the road to self-discovery really have to be so long and torturous? Not at all! Cut decades off the process and take a major shortcut on the road to clarifying your true purpose, says Dr. Brad Swift: Just follow the six steps, or "passages," that he outlines--and infuse purpose into every aspect of your life.
Twenty years ago, Dr. Brad Swift appeared successful from the outside, but inside, he was burned out, wracked with emotional pain, and ready to end it all--because he was living at odds with his true purpose. But then he turned his life around to follow his true life calling--and in the process, invented this six-step method to determining one's life purpose. He has since made a difference in the lives of hundreds of clients who've gone on to clarify their own purpose, and in many cases, teach this life-changing work.
Have you clarified your life's purpose? Don't wait until your whole life has slipped by! This book can help you make a profound difference with your life.
Customer Reviews:
Direct, Clear and to the Point.......2007-09-26
If you are looking for a to the point, simple read on understanding YOUR life purpose this book is it. As a life coach I have read most of the books on this topic available by every guru well known and obscure, and this book gives the most clear and concise answers to this age old question by doing the simple exercises. If you are looking for something that will give you answers in a day or a weekend, this book is it (depending on the readers need to ponder the questions in the exercises).
This book does not only have a beautiful cover, but beautiful contents, and what is so beautiful is the way it leads the reader to get to finally learn so much about themselves in such a brief period of time. This is no short cut, simply a direct path to knowing YOU. No longer is there the need to purchase books, products, and then go to the next upsale item in the product chain as you grasp at tidbits. In this book your questions about YOU are answered.
The most important element of this process are in steps two and three. I have seen other programs and books that dance around this part of self discovery, and uncover aspects of self-sabotage, but have never seen this particular way of directly uncovering this vital aspect of self knowledge. In discussions I can 'hear' the bell ring of finally 'getting it' when this information is uncovered so simply and directly. This part of the book makes it more valuable than the sale price alone. If you are tempted to put down the book at this point, continue through it, it can be a little tough, but once through it, you have greatly cleared many of the obstacles to living a life you love.
Bottom line, this book is truly worth the price and the time. If you want answers quickly and easily, then this is the book for you.
A treasure chest of wisdom.......2007-09-22
Just finished reading this book, very inspiring. Your writing just flowed and I could not put the book down. Each chapter was an exciting treat, filled with tips, information, guidance. I love your perspectives on purpose and have always share that feeling, but to see it written down and captured so eloquently in your book, is a gift. Your book is rich with powerful and practical tools, purposeful ponderings, inspired actions. It is a treasure chest of wisdom, I have already added it to my online store, and recommend it to everyone I meet. It is definitely a "Must Read." Thank you for truly sharing your brilliance.
It's not about doing, it's about being.......2007-08-15
Do you live life in a state of perpetual overwhelm, running from one task to another, always doing, doing, doing, but feeling like you're getting nowhere? Do you ever wonder why you live the life you do, and how you could make it better? Life on Purpose, Six Passages To An Inspired Life is a valuable tool to help you get on the way to living a more conscious, fulfilled life.
Rather than looking at life purpose as something you do, the author proposes that your life purpose is a way of being in the world. He says, "Consider that life purpose is the context, vessel, or container into which you pour your life." Clarifying your life purpose gives you a framework for living life and allows you to make conscious choices in every moment.
Unlike many self-help books that tell you how to find love, make a million dollars, and lose thirty pounds in two weeks, this little book shows you how to make every day an expression of who you truly are. You don't have to buy an expensive collection of CDs, attend an outrageously expensive in-person seminar with the guru du jour, or spend weeks or months meditating, praying or otherwise practicing before you see results. Written in conversational, easily accessible language, the book is like having a personal coaching session with Dr. Swift. He includes plenty of exercises, Call-To-Action Assignments, and practical, easy-to-use tools to help you live a purposeful life.
If you want to create a life you love living, buy this book and do the exercises. Your soul will thank you.
The Little Book That Can Make a Big Difference.......2007-08-06
The incredible popularity of Rev. Rick Warren's book on the Purpose Driven Life is proof of just how many people understand the importance of "finding" one's life purpose. Until Brad Swift's thoughtful book, those searching for their life purpose were left with two general pieces of advice on how to find one's purpose: (1) listen to the divine spirit, or (2) watch for the purpose to somehow develop on the road of life. Both are sound approaches, but Swift has developed methodologies to help people zero in more quickly.
Rick Warren's book(s) did a great job of opening minds as to the importance of purpose. Brad Swift's book gives people specific tools to help discover one's purpose. If Brad's book becomes as well read as Warren's (my fervent hope) AND IF READERS DO HIS PRESCRIBED EXERCISES, this book could be a huge contributor to making the world a much better place.
From time and memorial, the wisest have correctly reminded us that the purpose of a fulfilling life ultimately is about service (to others). Swift's book provides an excellent analytical framework for how one can make such a focus work in today's fast paced, challenging world.
I highly recommend this book and the tools contained in the book. Far beyond most self-help books, this book could really change one's life in ways that would make a real difference in this world!
An interesting way to a happier life.......2007-07-26
In this brilliant examination of the way to achieve a Life on Purpose, a life full of hopes and dreams and fun, one free of fear and `the grind'. The book provides a vast number of tools towards altering ones life and diagnosing the deep problems with one's career, family and outlook. The author notes that he sees "a world without vision and people without purpose" and because of this has crafted this book and his life towards coaching others.
The book offers six helpful steps towards fulfilling the process including `preparing for the journey' and `learning the tools for living on Purpose.' But the book is much more than simply six simple steps, it provides a plethora of smaller tools throughout, such as the `Wheel of Life' which allows the reader to chart their satisfaction in seven categories and design a balanced life around family, spiritual needs and friends. In its final chapter the book offers 28 helpful "principles for living on purpose.' This book will be incredibly helpful to anyone searching for more meaning, it is a short concise read and the amount of activities offered is truly stupendous. Unlike some self help books it is free from long winded passages that leave the reader feeling bewildered.

From the supplier: The planning theory of intention suggests that Michael S. Moore's intention theory of volition should be rejected, although his thesis of intention's distinctiveness is acceptable. The planning theory highlights the role of future-directed intentions in humans functioning as planning agents. This theory supports Moore's analysis of intentions are distinct from beliefs and desires. However, the theory also suggests that Moore's identification of intention with volition is incorrect. Volition need not involve the intention to perform specific bodily movements, as Moore claims.

Book Description
Many environmental problems cross national boundaries and can be addressed only through international cooperation. In this book Robert Darst examines transnational efforts to promote environmental protection in the USSR and in five of its successor states--Russia, Ukraine, and the Baltic republics of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania--from the late 1960s to the present. The core of the book is a comparative study of three key issues: nuclear power safety, transboundary air pollution, and Baltic Sea pollution.
Although expectations were high that the end of the Cold War and the breakup of the Soviet Union would lead to increased East-West environmental cooperation, the opposite has been true. Russia and the other successor states have generally agreed to address such problems only when paid to do so. Darst finds that post-Cold War environmental cooperation has been most successful when there is an overlap between the environmental and economic interests of the successor states and those of their Western neighbors, and when the foundation for cooperation was laid during the Cold War period.
The book is based on extensive original field research, including interviews with diplomats, government officials, scientists, and environmental activists in the successor states and Western Europe. Its findings underscore the importance of the domestic and international political context in which international environmental policy making occurs. It also deepens our understanding of the opportunities and dangers of positive inducements as a tool of international environmental policy.

Book Description
While researching Russia's historical efforts to protect nature, Douglas Weiner unearthed unexpected findings: a trail of documents that raised fundamental questions about the Soviet political system. These surprising documents attested to the unlikely survival of a critical-minded, scientist-led movement through the Stalin years and beyond. It appeared that, within scientific societies, alternative visions of land use, resrouce exploitation, habitat protection, and development were sustained and even publicly advocated. In sharp contrast to known Soviet practices, these scientific societies prided themselves on their traditions of free elections, foreign contacts, and a pre-revolutionary heritage.
Weiner portrays nature protection activists not as do-or-die resisters to the system, nor as inoffensive do-gooders. Rather, they took advantage of an unpoliced realm of speech and activity and of the patronage by middle-level Soviet officials to struggle for a softer path to development. In the process, they defended independent social and professional identities in the face of a system that sought to impose official models of behavior, ethics, and identity for all. Written in a lively style, this absorbing story tells for the first time how organized participation in nature protection provided an arena for affirming and perpetuating self-generated social identities in the USSR and preserving a counterculture whose legacy survives today.

Force of Nature: Environment as a Movement in Soviet Russia.......1999-07-10
A very needed contribution about a very important but little known part of modern Russia. From the druzhina movement to defeat of the "Project of the Century" that helped topple soviet dominance, the Russian love of the environment has served as a source of strength and political expression. A good antidote to the lingering cold war condescion still kicking that there is nothing of value in Russian society. Dense reading, however, but good. An important historical source.

Book Description
The Caucasus are a major center of biological, landscape, and cultural diversity, and appropriate mechanisms to maintain and foster these various types of diversity are urgently needed. As a first step, this report gives an overview of the region and details exisiting structure for cooperation at all levels.
Book Description
Complex and diverse, modern ecology is often difficult to introduce to undergraduate students in a way that conveys the excitement and enthusiasm that ecologists feel for their field. In this text, the authors aim to encourage students by adopting a new approach to teaching modern ecology, dividing the field into several distinct subdisciplines, each with its own way of looking at the world... Unique and accessible, Ecology concentrates on the ideas and techniques that separate different concept-based approaches to the study of ecology. It discusses six kinds of ecology: landscape, physiological, ecosystem, population, community, and behavioral, focusing on the kinds of questions ecologists ask about their world rather than on accumulated ecological knowledge. For each type of ecology, the authors explore how it is distinct, the theory and technology involved, and its successes and possibilities for the future. Each chapter discusses the roles of evolution and of modeling in that particular kind of ecology, and also emphasizes that there are important questions ecologists do not yet have the answers to. These questions encourage students to consider pursuing the study of ecology because there is still much significant work to be done. The authors, all experts in specific areas of ecology, strive to inspire students by communicating the excitement they feel about their respective fields of study and by actively involving students in the learning process. The discussions are set in the context of the human relationship to nature and include practical applications of ecology, such as resource management and conservation. Easily accessible to undergraduate students in general ecology, this brief, up-to-date, and lucidly written text is an ideal starting place for learning ecology. It sets ecology in its cultural context and encourages students to see ecology happening all around them, opening their eyes to the wide range of possibilities in the field and providing them with a firm basis for further reading and for choosing advanced courses and careers. The text will soon be enhanced by helpful supplemental material: the authors are currently in the process of developing a website (which will include the art from the book, lab and field experiments, data sets, and sample tests) and a book of readings to accompany the text.
Customer Reviews:
A fine and readable survey of academic ecology.......2003-11-20
This book presents a survey of the academic subdivisions of the science of ecology. Gives some general information and then a chapter on each of 6 different specializations in the science, viz., landscape, ecosystem, physiological, behavioral, population and community ecology, written by pofessional ecologists. Especially valuable for someone wishing to study ecology in school who wonders what exactly the various subfields deal with and consist of. Also enjoyable for anyone wanting to learn about the aims, problems, approaches and results of ecology as an academic endeavor. Includes sections on how the subfields are linked together. Includes a glossary and many references.
For those that like to be Confused.......2000-04-20
What a terrible book - not only is it difficult to read - but missing much of common Ecology viewpoints and basics. Worthless, absolutely worthless - anyone want to by mine - cost of postage. If not, I'll just burn it.
