Excellent Career Guide for Serious Paralegals.......2007-09-20
As someone who earned a paralegal certification at WOLI (Washington Online Learning Institute), a 100% online school, I was very pleased to have this book recommended by my career counselor at WOLI. I found this book to be full of useful information about the paralegal profession, the importance of credentials and most importantly what potential employers such as law firms and corporations expect from persons such as myself. I understand that many WOLI students are using this book and I am pleased to recommend it.
A great guide for paralegals or anyone considering the field........2006-08-20
This book is a great overview of the paralegal field. It briefly covers every aspect of being a paralegal. This would be a great book to read if you are considering becoming a paralegal but aren't sure if it's the right career for you. I have completed a degree in paralegal studies and found this book to be a great review of all the areas I have studied. I'm sure it will be a handy reminder for those areas of paralegal practice that I don't use on a regular basis. I recommend it to everyone from beginning paralegals to those with years of experience. The author has done a great job of writing in a manner that keeps everything simple enough for anyone to understand but detailed enough to be of use to anyone involved in the paralegal field.

Half-way through, and Love it!.......2007-01-28
I am a paralegal student, and the guide that Chere has written is VERY helpful! I feel that I'll hit the ground running when I complete my certificate, and will have an "edge" that my fellow students won't have (unless they read this book). In particular, I love the interviews with real-life paralegals. I've only read half of this book, but it really is a winner!
Love this book!.......2006-07-12
This is a fantastic book for entry-level and experienced paralegals alike. It helps get you through some tough situations. Chere Estrin is a pro and well-known for sound advice and this book is full of excellent ideas and suggestions. I highly recommend it!
PARALEGAL CAREER PATHS.......2003-02-02
If you've ever had those middle of the night terrors wondering if you've made a mistake by choosing a paralegal career, you should pick up a copy of the Paralegal Career Guide. This book packs a lot of information about career pathways for paralegals.
Written clearly, this book is chock full of information covering trends, career options, how to create value, salary negotiations, tips on getting along with co-workers, and other career resources. There is practical advice on topics such as job sharing to deciding whether or not to temp. The chapter I'm now focusing on - "Paralegal Careers in the New Millennium" - provides more far more career options for paralegals than anything I've ever seen. One comes away from the book with a sense of what's possible with a paralegal background.
Ms. Estrin has provided a list of valuable resources at the end of the book. It includes staffing agencies, online resources, relevant books and periodicals and even a "Systems, Services, and Software Guide." After reading this book, I would issue this label: Caution: Reading this book will make you giddy with optimism.
Best Career Book I have ever read.......1998-11-25
I loved this book. The author obviously knows her subject. Any paralegal will find it invaluable in charting the course of his or her carrer. This is real insider stuff so if you want to know how others have made a go of a tough career, pick this book up.
Best book on paralegal careers I've ever read!.......1998-11-07
Chere Estrin really knows this field! Here is an insightful, powerfully written book that gives solid advice to experienced and entry-level paralegals. I found the book to be direct, helpful and very funny! I actually laughed out loud in parts. The book spells out how to succeed in this field. It captures the nuances you need to know. It has checklists and creative forms that will help you on the job. It even has very interesting profiles of other paralegals. Chere Estrin can help you get ahead in your career. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

The Successful Paralegal Job Search Guide.......2001-05-20
This is the book to buy if you have any interest in pursuing a career as a Paralegal. The information is up-to-date and covers everything; from an overview of the Paralegal field, to choosing the right training/education program, to entering the workforce, to those first days practicing as a paralegal. Insight into the workings of a Law Firm, resume writing, job search resources, interviewing tips, plus appendices covering "Legal Lingo", Paralegal Schools, Paralegal Organizations, and so much more. What really sold me on the book is the "Free Resume Critique" that the Estrin Organization offers at the end. When you are ready, simply send your resume with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and they will review and return your resume; giving ratings in twenty areas on a scale of 1 to 5. After months of research this is the only resource I found that was so concise. I will begin post-graduate work towards a Paralegal degree this fall.
Helped me Find My Job.......2001-04-29
I didn't have a clue where to start to look for a paralegal job. I have been in this field for five years at one job and was out of touch with what's going on in the marketplace. I picked up this book and found everything I needed - from resume writing to what to expect in the interview to hidden meanings behind the questions asked. I also found the salary negotiation section extremely helpful. When I went on my final interview, I found that I was able to use some of the techniques successfully. The book gave me resources I hadn't even thought about. I think that I was able to get my job more quickly by reading this book. I highly recommend it to experienced, non-experienced paralegals and even those just thinking about entering the field. Now that I think about it, it can apply to just about anyone!
The Best Paralegal Job Search Book on the Market!.......2001-02-23
The Successful Paralegal Job Search Guide is absolutely the most informative book I have seen yet on the market. It is chock full of sample resumes, cover letters, and most importantly, strategy techniques. It appeals to paralegals of all levels - entry to senior - and all specialties. The step-by-step tips on what can occur during the interview is particularly important. The background information, resources, on-line resources are excellent. I loved the 275 questions you can be asked on the interview and was thrilled to find 275 questions that I could ask! I have never seen that before. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is in the field, who is thinking about entering the field and for schools seeking to assist students in finding a paralegal job. Chere Estrin is an icon in this business and has written yet another winner!

definitely helpful.......2006-07-11

This book is of special value to anyone searching for a job, but it also contains plenty of do's and dont's to help you make it through the daily grind.
Everything a Legal Staffer Needs to Know.......2006-07-11
I've been a legal secretary since 1995. Earlier this year, I found myself out of work and out of luck. After 10 months of unemployment and no serious leads, I got desperate.
I ordered the Guide to a Successful Career as a Paralegal on Amazon. The book arrived on a Friday, so I took the weekend to go over it. I was surprised that there was a lot more to the book that just what you would expect. It covers every facet of life as a legal support specialist. I would strongly recommend this book to anybody just starting out. The book carefully lays out what it took me 10 years as a legal secretary to figure out for myself.
The book covered everything from how to survive life in a law firm, how to get noticed and advance, and how to make important career transitions. I actually wish this book had been around when I graduated college. Even though I have 10 years experience as a legal secretary, I can admit that the book did teach me a few new tricks.
Most importantly to me, however, the book offered some really great tips on what to do when you find yourself in the middle of a job search. It took me just 2 weeks to get a new job after learning the most effective methods of job searching for legal secretaries from the Guide to a Successful Career.
Lawcrossing has more or less cornered the market on helping legal professionals get jobs, so their name on this book should let everyone know that this is the real deal, the gold standard of handbooks for paralegals.

This book helps the reader to get a closer look at the paralegal career. It contains a lot if useful information, such as web links for the legal job search engines, addresses of the organizations, hints for the interview.
