Book Description
The law of real property, or land law, is a core subject in the LLB programmes at universities in the Caribbean, as elsewhere. This book has been designed as a textbook for university students. It will also be useful for students at the professional law schools who are required to take courses in the law of landlord and tenant and for paralegals taking land law courses. It is expected that practitioners will also find the book useful as a work of ready reference, in so far as it consolidates and analyses the substantive laws of several jurisdictions.

Treitel 'The Law of Contract'.......1999-04-18
This is the definitive textbook for those who need to understand the English Law of Contract. It is not an easy read but it covers the whole area in an appropriate manner. Professor Treitel is one (if not 'the') leading academic contract lawyers in England. Make sure you get the latest Edition.
Book Description
Cicero's On the Commonwealth and On the Laws are his most important works of political philosophy. The present volume offers a scholarly reconstruction of the fragments of On the Commonwealth and a masterly translation of both dialogues. The texts are supported by a helpful, concise introduction, notes and other aids. Students in politics, philosophy, ancient history, law and classics will gain a new understanding of this seminal thinker thanks to Professor Zetzel's volume.
Customer Reviews:
Good apparatus, hit-or-miss translation.......2007-04-25
Zetzel's edition of the Cicero's Republic and Laws contains all of the nice extras that go along with the Cambridge Texts in the History of Political Thought. It has helpful footnotes, biographical glossary, and an introduction into some of the difficulties that Zetzel faced as a translator. Zetzel has also supplemented the manuscript text of the Republic with fragments preserved in other writers to give some sense of what is missing.
The translation is one of the better ones I've seen, and I'm not sure that there is a better one. Zetzel found it impossible to translate res publica consistently, but does point out wherever it appears in the text in a footnote. This translation is not suited to the demands of in-depth interpretation, however. Zetzel translates both prudens and sapientia as wise or wisdom, for example, but not consistently. Both scientia and philosophia are translated as philosophy. These problems may cause some difficulty if the text is read too closely, but the general sense of Cicero's works won't be lost.

Book Description
Many common law countries inherited British income tax rules. Whether the inheritance was direct or indirect, the rationale and origins of some of the central rules seem almost lost in history. Commonly, they are simply explained as being of British origin without more, but even in Britain the origins of some of these rules are less than clear. This book traces the roots of the income tax and its precursors in Britain and in its former colonies to 1820. Harris focuses on four issues that are central to common law income taxes and which are of particular current relevance: the capital/revenue distinction, the taxation of corporations, taxation on both a source and residence basis, and the schedular approach to taxation. He uses an historical perspective to make observations about the future direction of income tax in the modern world. Volume II will cover the period 1820 to 2000.

This volume contains the Memoranda prepared for the 2005 Meeting of Commonwealth Law Ministers and Senior Officials, together with the Communiqué and Meeting Agenda. (Minutes of the Meeting and Classified Memoranda are published separately, as these are only available to member governments.)
Book Description
Tucker, St. George. Blackstone's Commentaries. With Notes of Reference to the Constitution and Laws, of the Federal Government of the United States, and of the Commonwealth of Virginia. In Five Volumes, with an Appendix to Each volume, Containing Short Tracts upon Such Subjects As Appeared Necessary to Form a Connected View of the Laws of Virginia As a Member of the Federal Union. Philadelphia: William Young Birch and Abraham Small, 1803. Five volumes. Reprinted 1996 by The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. With a New Critical Introduction by Paul Finkelman and David Cobin. LCCN 96-12566. ISBN 1-886363-15-3. Cloth. $450. The first extended treatment of the subject, Tucker's Blackstone is a key resource for understanding how Americans viewed English common law in the years following the adoption of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Based on his lectures at the College of William and Mary, Tucker interprets Blackstone's often antidemocratic viewpoint in the American context. A strong proponent of the First Amendment, he elaborates a theory of freedom of speech and press that is more expansive than in the English tradition. "Tucker's Blackstone became a standard reference work for many American lawyers unable to consult a law library, especially those on the frontier. It is impossible to measure its impact on American law, but it is clear that sales were strongest in Virginia, as could be expected; it was also widely used in Pennsylvania and South Carolina." Bryson, The Virginia Law Reporter Before 1800 102. Tucker's Blackstone has been cited in numerous cases by the U.S. Supreme Court in an attempt to discern the original intent of the Constitution. Eller, The William Blackstone Collection in the Yale Law Library 87. Sabin, A Dictionary of Books relating to America 5696. Cohen, Bibliography of Early American Law 5318. A monumental work of continuing relevance, this reprint edition is prefaced by a new critical introduction by Professors Paul Finkelman and David Cobin.

Book Description
This book is concerned with changes and proposed changes to the governmental structures of the four oldest members of the Commonwealth--Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. It is divided into three sections. The first contrasts the efforts of the three "older dominions" to free themselves legally from their constitutional ties with the United Kingdom, not achieved until the 1980s. The second section examines attempts and proposals to curb the power of the parliaments to impair individual and democratic rights. Only Canada has achieved something similar to the United States' Bill of Rights, but there are some social pressures in the same direction in the other three countries. The final section compares the judicial interpretation of the federal constitutions of Canada and Australia. This in turn is compared with the position of Britain in the EEC. As a result of political forces and judicial interpretation, the power of the British Parliament is steadily waning in favor of increased Community power, in a manner akin to that occurring in relation to the distribution of central and regional power in Canada and Australia.
Book Description
Filled with action, danger, and suspense this book is sure to keep readers in their seats, following Billy and Bonnie to the exciting conclusion. This is the third saga in a four book series.
Customer Reviews:
ANOTHER GREAT THRILLING READ.......2007-07-14
This series just keeps on raising the bar. The book starts in high gear and never lets up. The final third of the book is just plain UNPUTDOWNABLE!!! Davis just piles on the tension and always is giving us more details about Dragons, Merlin, King Arthur and Excalibur. He very realistically adds to their Myths and makes it seem like this has been part of the Myths for all times. He is very creditable as he leads us along this fantastic journey! Adults who love the lure of Myths should give this series a try. They won't be disappointed.
Excellent Service.......2007-01-17
It took about three days for me to receive the book that I ordered from Amazon. And not only did it come in a timely fashion but it was in excellent condition. No surprises here and that's what I like to see. I would definately come back in the future, especially for the prices.
Easily the best book I have ever read........2006-06-06
Now, don't think. Do not pass go. Put this book directly into your shopping cart. The series of Dragons in our Midst is by far the best series that I have read, including the Harry Potter books(can't stand them now that I've seen six truly great books, the four in this series and the two Inheiretance books) And this is the best book in the series, by a single scale. This is definitely worth reading again and again and again. THIS BOOK AND SERIES TOTALLY OWNS!!! BUY IT!!!
The best book so far in an awesome series!.......2006-05-08
The Dragons In Our Midst series is one of the best series of bookks that ther are, and Circles of Seven is the best book so far. Dragons In Our Midst makes Harry Potter seem extremly flimsy and shallow. (Which is actually fairly true in any instance. JKR was overpaid.) Anyway, THIS IS AN AWESOME BOOK!
BUY IT!
Great!.......2006-05-05
Carrying on the series smoothly, CIRCLES OF SEVEN answers questions from the previous books and still leaves enough suspence to have readers on the edge of their seat, waiting until they get the next book in the series. Never start reading these books if you have a busy day ahead, and most certainly do NOT start them in the late evening! You'll want to finish it all, even on pain of not enough sleep.
Very enjoyable, the series continues to be a very clean, Christian oriented fantasy series that even non-religious readers may be able to enjoy wholeheartedly.
Customer Reviews:
A STUNNING ENDING TO A SPECTACULAR SERIES.......2007-09-07
Bryan Davis starts with a great series and does the almost impossible. Each book and episode just keeps getting better. The thrills and tensions just keep being ratcheted up. Every book does the near impossibility of always raising the bar. There is no weak moment or book in the entire series. This finale is a classic example of plotting, pacing, atmosphere, characterization and expanding our knowledge of dragons and myth. A genius is a work here. Don't miss a book, sequel or prequel. AND THERE IS MORE TO COME!!!
Too many cliches.......2007-08-09
I've enjoyed this series as a whole, but there were many elements of the final story that bothered me. Mostly, the overuse of the death/resurrection plot point. The savior-like death and resurrection of a character is a common point of fantasy books, and a Christian fantasy book has a little more reason to use that plot device, but this series has used it time and time again. And I felt like when a character actually died at the end, it was a token death. And also, though Bonnie is supposed to be an inspirational character, and in previous books, she's had her own struggles and trials, I felt like in this concluding book and in the third one, she was a Mary Sue, or a character who is too perfect.
The way that the author incorporates the mythical and the inspirational is, as in the other books, very satisfying. There was a lot I liked about the book. But I found myself reading faster and faster in order to just be done, not because I was so enthralled. Also, I got really really tired of all of the prophecies written in fairly mediocre verse.
Would I still recommend the book? Yes, but not to everyone. This book and series is mostly good for a lighter read, even with its weightier themes.
Excellent Series.......2007-07-08
Dragon's in our Midst and Bryan Davis' new series, Oracles of Fire, is simply amazing. All the books in both series have kept my attention both by their invigorating plots and characters. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for a good read.
Christian values in a dragon story.......2007-03-19
My daughter reads this series, and she is 13/14. She enjoys it and has told me of the Christian elements present, and I approve of them. For children who enjoy sci-fi/dragon fantasy stories, this one has no message that 'magic is good', but rather subservience to a supreme God. I recommend this author and this series.
Tears of a Dragon(Dragons in Our Midst, Volume 4).......2007-01-12
Well written Christian fantasy that takes away the idea that dragons are evil. After having read the last 3 volumes by Bryan Davis I needed to find a source to order the last book in this series and decided to order through Amazon which friends have raved about. So my review is about them as well. I received the book fast and in excellent condition. With that out of the way, the book has many twists and turns that make it different from other fantasy novels on dragons not which is least that dragons become human to dragons to people again. Dragons in Our Midst tantalizes the reader in it's way of making you guess what will happen next to our heros as well as our minior heros, but stays on the level of the teen/young adult's level. I am not a young adult but enjoy a good fantasy and this was on the scale of Lord of the Rings and Narnia a fairly suspenseful but easy story that young folks would enjoy but adults can get a few days of enjoyment from reality as well. It was more toward the Narnia level of read. It is safe for the parents who don't want their children to read wordly fantasy with all it contains and I would recommend it for those who are homeschooling and want to keep their children's minds from experimenting too far from morality and purity.
Book Description
A modern fanasty novel that inspires young people to believe in the promises made by trustworthy friends, to discern between good and evil, and to use their God-given strengths to fight against evil and set the captives free.
Customer Reviews:
A GREAT SEQUEL - A SERIES FOR ALL AGES.......2007-06-26
Sometimes a sequel just isn't as good as the first book in a series. THIS ONE IS EVERY BIT AS EXCITING AS THE FIRST! Davis uses a great HOOK: IS BONNIE'S MOTHER ALIVE? The reader also meets Bonnie's father. Pacing, Action, Atmosphere, Characterisation, Setting, and especially Motives and Motivation are at the highest level of excellence as the best Thrillers being written today. I'm a middle aged adult; not a teen and I find This Series and author cross all age barriers. Do yourself a favor and try this series. The author also does the King Arthur, Merlin and Excalibur legends to a turn and with new twists! I've lent volume one to a few friends (adults who love either scifi or thrillers) and they have become hooked fans of both the author, the series and the return to legends and dragons. DON'T MISS THIS SERIES.
It was good I want to see what happens next!.......2007-04-16
It was a good book i want to read the next one (but is devin really dead or will he come back?)in the saga. But the fighting or adventure didn't really happen all that much like in the first book.
this book is the best!.......2006-06-06
The entire series of Dragons in our Midst is the best series that I have ever read. The Candlestone improves on its prequel, Raising Dragons, with more adventure and action than the first book. If you are considering buying this book, then do buy it, along with all the rest of the series. Be sure to read it.
Incredible!.......2006-05-05
Though RAISING DRAGONS was perhaps a bit of a predictable read, the CANDLESTONE jumped right out at me, and pulled me into the series. From start to finish, things continued lining up from the first book and slowly became even more unpredictable than I've ever expected to see from any author.
It's well written, smooth and with a clarity that makes one KNOW the characters, this is a book that any fan of good, clean fantasy should not skip out on. Particularly if you're looking for something that's just a bit different from the typical, just a bit extreme enough to be readable, and just creative enough to border on cutting edge vs the everyday fantasy heroes.
LOVE THESE BOOKS!.......2006-04-27
ZOMGZ! I LOVE THESE BOOKS SO MUCH!
Seriously, these books are so amazing, and I have such a huge crush on Bonnie. Just look at the cover! SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL! OMG! I would totally marry her IRL! I don't even care if she has dragon wings! She is so, so, so beautiful and just an amazing person who lives her life through Christ in every way. WOW! READ THESE BOOKS! YOU WILL LOVE HER TOO!
Book Description
Modern fantasy novel that inspires young people to pursue faith, courage, and love, to dig deep within to find their God-given strengths no matter how difficult the circumstances.
Customer Reviews:
I loved this book!.......2007-09-24
OK, this book is my absolute favorite! Bryan Davis has done a great job on this one! I like how it incoperates a little bit of religion in there too, but not as much as it's sequels, The Candlestone, Circles of Seven, and Tears of a Dragon. And remember those names, because after you read this book, it pulls you in! What it's about is two teens who are part dragons and part human. Well, actually both are fully dragon and human, but that can get confusing. The book is just one of those I-don't-care-if-it's-time-for-dinner-I'm-not-putting-this-book-down-and-you-can't-make-me kind of book. Great for anyone who is intersted in fantasy and adventure. And the second book in the series (The Candlestone) has a little bit for science fiction readers too. I mean, it is almost impossible to not like this book if you enjoy reading. Oh, and once you get into it, go ahead and go to www.dragonsinourmidst.com, where you can read the author's blog and submit stories or art to the fan gallary, or even order Dragons in our Midst appareal. Well, I hope this review convinced you to buy this book, it really is my fave, and in my mind, I like it better than the Harry Potter series, but that's probably just me! Well, enjoy the book!
A Review of Dragons in Our Midst by Wayne Thomas Batson, Author of the Door Within Trilogy.......2007-08-02
You're an adolescent, and you've got issues: pimples, popularity, progress reports--the works. But you have nothing on Billy Bannister. Billy has bad breath--no, not chronic halitosis. More like chronic "pyrotosis." You see, Billy has scorching hot breath. It's so bad and so persistent that kids at school begin calling Billy "Dragon Breath." But could there be more to that than they know? And just what's inside Bonnie's backpack anyway?
Dragons in Our Midst by Bryan Davis is a sensational contemporary fantasy. It's as fun as Disney and as deep as life. Mr. Davis writes in such fine prose, it's nearly poetic. In fact, kids will LOVE reciting the cool rhyming poetry sprinkled throughout.
Do you like Dragons? Are you looking for heroes? Add Dragons in Our Midst to your to-be-read pile and be prepared for late nights of engaging reading.
A CLASSIC START TO A CLASSIC SERIES.......2007-06-07
First off, I'm not usually a fantasy or scifi reader. Thrillers, Murder Mysteries, Books on Music, and even Stephen King are where I find my pleasure reading. While on vacation, the back cover of Part Four - TEARS OF A DRAGON caught my attention. I passed on buying it; but , it wouldn't leave my mind. Second, I'm not a young adult - I'm 58. I finally tracked down the book and bought it and started with Part One - RAISING DRAGONS and I'm glad I did. The author is an expert in Plotting, Characterization, Pacing, Atmosphere, Suspense and especially in getting the reader hooked right away on the premise and believing it. His characters are believable and sympathetic. Do yourself a favor, no matter what your age, and give this series and this author a try! He is right up there with Dan Brown, Jeffrey Deaver and Peter Lovesey for plotting, suspense and pacing. A TRUE FIND!
Unique premise. Surprisingly engaging........2007-06-05
There are few books that get me to read them consistently many nights in a row. The first to EVER do that was the 3rd Harry Potter. This book is probably the fourth to do so, and more intensely then recent ones.
Anyway, as cheesy as the premise may sound from simply reading summaries of it, it's actually rather cool. Two kids (unrelated) find out their ancestors were dragons. In fact, the boy's father is a dragon in human form (I'm not spoiling anything; that's in the summary). Of course, they kinda find this out through the appearance of certain dragon related abilities first. The boy starts to develop fire-breathing and the girl has wings. They eventually start to get hunted by some crazed modern-day dragon slayer who finds out about them.
Early on the plot starts to tie into Arthurian legend (as in King Arthur), and this connection is done quite well. There's also some tie-in's with the Bible, though that aspect is a bit over-the-top and would make Bible scholars shake their heads and groan at the thought of using a fictitious interpretation of some passages.
Can't say much more without spoiling the plot. If any of you hate cliffhangers, you'll be happy to know this book ends well enough. Just bear in mind there are three sequels that may call to your attention if you like this one enough. Speaking of which, I should probably order those some time.
Not a ABC Book.......2007-05-18
This is Homeschool Mom's daughter, I am 14.
I LOVED this book and the ones after it. It is not an ABC (Already Been Chewed) Book. Christains and non-Christians will enjoy it immensly. Every page is Packed with non stop adventure and mystery. Very fast moving and yet unsolved mysteries hang in the air, ones that started hundreds of years before the characters were born. Well plotted and Extremly well developed. Characters are deep and beleivable. The Conflict is REAL. The Danger is REAL. I never ever had any trouble with the things in this book. The relationships that build are deep and again Real. This is a book no one should miss.

Book Description
Terror. Anger. Revenge. Murder. Dogged Meanness. Suspense. Love. Respect. Responsibility. Family. Joy. This book has all of these, plus much more. It has the attributes a young boy or girl look for in a book. It's a real page turner written from the viewpoint of Betty Jane, a sixth grade student. This book for young adults deals with how life was lived in the mid 20th century (1940's) before modern conveniences came to a small rural farm community in the South. The main focus of the story involves two 12 year old girls who are in the sixth grade in a small one-room schoolhouse. Their friend's father, Mr. T.J. Looney, is killed for no apparent reason. The two girls set about trying to find out why this happened. In the process, they stumble upon a deadly killer who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. This involves "punishing" these girls and their families for exposing him. While the main theme of the story is on the killer and his antics, the story also has many other situations which need to be resolved. These events range from being heart-rending to amusing. There are real life lessons to be learned in this story. There are decisions to be made which test the metal of the people in this hillbilly community. The book is entertaining and inspiring. There is no end of excitement and intrigue in this book. Plus, the book confronts many modern day challenges students face in today's world. Challenges on how to behave in an honest and forthright manner.

Book Description
Raelene Ruth is at her very best in this superbly rendered creation of the existence of the two worlds we live in every day, the spiritual and the physical. It is her sixth novel and her first adult work of fiction, which took ten years in the writing. It is an edge of your seat, roller coaster adventure filled with page turning thrills and chills. Get ready for a fast paced ride into the unseen spiritual dimension that exists side by side with our physical world and the impact that dimension can have on all of us. Fourteen-year-old Timothy James lives in a small town of 6,000. Typical of any boy his age, he suddenly feels a need to cast away all family values, and seek what the world has to offer, sex being high on his priority list. This search leads him into more trouble as he is attacked by unseen forces when he deliberately ducks from under the protective canopy that his family's prayers and beliefs in God have given him. He makes some very wrong choices and puts himself, his friends, and his family in harms way by attending a sex education meeting at a friend's church. The church is founded on satanic principals. Tim learns too much and becomes a threat. The church's High Priestess, Ruth Ellen, hires a Canadian Indian, with nothing but murder on his mind and a gay weight lifter with nothing but sodomy on his mind, to kidnap and kill the boy. But God has a different plan, a plan he formed before Timothy was even conceived. He uses this dangerous situation to reveal to Tim, his true purpose and destiny. Using the circumstances, Tim turns the tables on the enemies of God and starts a war between heaven and hell that challenges everything Tim, his friends, and his family thought they knew or believed about the ways of God or the world they live in. In Our Midst A bold novel written in the style of Frank Peretti's "This Present Darkness."
