Book Description
When first published in 1987, this highly popular volume of carefully selected, leading European Community cases was widely recognized as being the best collection of its kind, offering in-depth analysis of the leading cases, so that the lessons learned in this way could help with many other problems. Since then, EC law has greatly expanded in substance, and its nature comes ever closer to a federal legal order. This transformation is the work of the Court of Justice. These extraordinary features the transformation of its nature and the nature of the transformer are the reasons for a completely revised edition with crucial new material and with an entirely new structure covering the EC/EU's constitutional balance, its internal market, and its external relations. The practical importance of its case-law and the striking features of the Court's attitude to judicial function and reasoning necessitate a special study of its leading cases. The book can accompany traditional undergraduate courses, and can also provide a self-contained course for advanced students.

This book reproduces the basic materials relating to the historical background of East Timor, to the circumstances of the Indonesian invasion and subsequent incorporation of East Timor, to the development of the dispute in the light of the international community's response to it, and, finally, to the 1995 judgment of the International Court of Justice in the case concerning East Timor between Portugal and Australia.

Beef raisers bible.......2007-10-03
This is a great addition to my library. I go back to it all the time, looking for answers while we raise and learn about our Scottish Highlands.
Storey's Guide to Raising Beef.......2007-05-26
We found this book to be jam packed with useful and interesting information. A must for anyone raising beef!
Helpful hints for an Aussie girl.......2007-01-30
even though this book is written for the American farmer, I found a lot of the information quite helpful to me. I have not been farming very long. We work with beef cattle on grass and it has been a steep learning curve for us. Thank you for such well articulated good sense. I have taken initiatives that I thought were sensible and this book has either confirmed my ideas or given me a better way to approach the situation. I have also appreciated the statistical information given about the cattle. Thank you and God bless
Good, Thorough Book!.......2006-08-03
This book was exactly what I was looking for. I know nothing about cattle, my husband has raised them since he was young. I wanted a book that would explain the "little things" to me so I wouldn't have to ask him day in day out what this meant, what they are doing, how will we know when they are in heat, etc. It's very interesting, easy read and very informative.
Excellent book.......2005-07-20
You will learn something from this book, you can tell it is wrote by someone who has been around cattle. It was very easy to read, after I finished I put mine on the shelf to use as a reference.

Book Description
In today's world, we are witnessing simultaneous breakthroughs in reproductive technologies, genomics, and molecular biology. Advances in molecular genetic technology and understanding of the bovine genome have led to the development of tools that can be used to enhance profitability on cow-calf enterprises. Factors Affecting Calf Crop: Biotechnology of Reproduction provides a detailed compilation of current and forthcoming technology for managing reproduction in cattle. The book discusses topics such as: approved techniques for controlling the estrous cycle in cattle; managing follicular growth with progesterone, estrogens, and prostaglandins; freezing, thawing, and transfer of cattle embryos; application of embryo transfer to the beef cattle industry; embryo transfer in topically adapted cattle; new factors affecting bull fertility; embryo collection and utilization technology, in vitro fertilization, somatic cell cloning, and genetic technologies; uses of real-time ultrasound; and sexed semen. Over 25 leading animal scientists have combined their expertise to produce the first single-source reference that covers successful reproductive techniques that will, most likely, be the wave of the future. Expansive in scope, the book addresses current biotechnologies as they impact the production of beef cattle. Written at a level to appeal to the researcher, commercial producer, or student, Factors Affecting Calf Crop: Biotechnology of Reproduction presents you with a wealth of technologies applicable to animal agriculture.

Book Description
How did animal breeding emerge as a movement? Who took part and for what reasons? How do the pedigree and market systems work? What light might the movement shed on the assumptions behind human eugenics?
In Bred for Perfection, Margaret Derry provides the most comprehensive and accessible book yet published on the human quest to improve and develop livestock. Derry, herself a breeder and trained historian of science, explores the "triangle" of genetics, eugenics, and practical breeding, focusing on Shorthorn cattle, show dogs and working dogs, and one type of purebred horse, the Arabian. By examining specific breeders and the animals they produced, she illuminates the role of technology, genetics, culture, and economics in the system of purebred breeding. Bred for Perfection also provides the historical context in which this system arose, adding to our understanding of how domestication works and how our welfare--since the dawn of time--has been intertwined with the lives of animals.

Excellent for information on breeding & showing cattle........2000-07-02
"Beef Cattle Breeding,Feeding and Showing" is exactly what the title portrays.A well written and very informative book covering most aspects of Beef Cattle production. Easily understood by the novice it also has valuable information for the more experienced. This book covers other topics such as conformation, and touches on genetics. It also has a helpful section on Health. The section on Showing is great,as there is not a lot of information available on show ring protocol and preparing animals for the show ring. I would recommend this book to all Beef Breeders especially beginners.

Book Description
Humans started domesticating farm livestock over 10,000 years ago. For much of this time, livestock have been changed genetically by subjective means. In the past 50 years, the application of scientific methods to animal breeding has led to major improvements in the output, cost and quality of animal products in the last few decades. This book describes the principles of genetic improvement of farm livestock and the practical application of these principles to dairy cattle, beef cattle and sheep breeding. Originally published in 1998 by Farming Press.
Customer Reviews:
Get This Book.......2000-01-23
This is one of the best books I have read on genetic improvement of livestock. It covers everything from basic molecular genetics to statistical analysis of genetic progress. It gives a lot of terrific examples and I think anybody who is entertaining the idea of breeding livestock or working with livestock should definitely read this book. It is much more interesting than all of the old Animal Science books that have a lot of photographs of Showring Winners and little applied science. Get This Book!
